Many of the actors had just returned from the bloodiest war ever fought on the face of the earth. According to Victor Davis Hanson, (National Review, Oct. 2017) between Sept. 1, 1939 (invasion of Poland) and Sept. 2, 1945 (the formal surrender of Japan) 27,000 souls perished every day. That’s why in the film the viewer can see it’s a wonderful life.
